On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Food Safety and Hygiene and be able to apply them at their workplace.
The course will cover the following five topics:
Topic 1: Practise good personal hygiene
Topic 2: Use safe ingredients
Topic 3: Handle food safely
Topic 4: Store food safely
Topic 5: Maintain cleanliness of equipment and premises
Classroom and Assessment
Medium of instruction: English / Tamil translation / Malay translation.
To equip food handlers of both retail and non-retail food establishments with the knowledge and application skills to follow food safety and hygiene procedures and policies, as well as maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of premises.
For the AOP Pathway, candidates will only be required to undergo an assessment lasting 1.5 hours. This assessment comprises a Practical Performance (PP) and a Written Assessment consisting of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) and Short Answer Questions (SAQ).
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment and are certified 'Competent' will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA) by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
To fulfil the assessment requirements, Food Safety Course Level 1 candidates are to strictly adhere to the attire requisites stated below.
No formal qualification - Participants should have the ability to converse, read & write in English.
Copy of the Basic Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by any ONE of the following:
Singapore SkillsFuture Singapore under the WSQ framework.
Singapore Food Agency
Note: SFA continues to recognize Refresher Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) from Oct 2010 to Jun 2014.
To fulfil the assessment requirements, in line with the Hygiene and Safety policies, participants are assessed on personal grooming and hygiene. Candidates are encouraged to adhere to the attire requisites stated below.
Food Handlers including chefs, sous chefs, and cooks. Kitchen assistants, food stall assistants, bartenders and mixologists. Workers in food manufacturing companies including those in:
